Clare Burke

I hold an MA in art psychotherapy and am a member of the Health Care Professions Council whose standards of proficiency I meet and whose code of ethics I abide by. I am also a member of the British Association of Art Therapists. I am additionally trained in Eye Movement Desensatisation Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy and have further training in attachment informed (ai)EMDR therapy. I am a member of EMDR UK. I am trained in Internal Family systems (IFS). I have been working alongside trained therapists since 2010  and providing therapy as a qualified practitioner since 2016 for a wide variety of clients, including those in palliative care, children in care, adults with learning difficulties and adults with both PTSD and C-PTSD as well as for those who are neurodivergent. For the last 6 years I have been working within the NHS in secondary care with adults who have 'severe and enduring mental health difficulties'.

I found art psychotherapy by necessity after a prolonged period of depression in my twenties.

Attending therapy enabled psychological growth and the understanding of my story, the easing of distress, and the building of self-esteem, while also fuelling a professional and academic passion which resulted in my own therapy training and subsequent professional development.

My theoretical learning has been consistently guided by keeping up with developments within psychotherapy alongside what I have found to be beneficial in my own therapy journey.

My personal life experiences led me to experience both EMDR and IFS therapy as a client, which I have found to be extremely effective, transformative and inspiring models.

I began my therapy training in 2010. Since then I have provided therapy to a wide variety of individuals including those in palliative care, children in care, adults with learning difficulties and adults with both Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and Complex PTSD (C-PTSD). I have also worked with both adults and children who are neurodivergent. For the last 6 years I have been working within the NHS in secondary care with adults who have 'severe and enduring mental health difficulties'. While this list gives an indication of the types of difficulty and experiences the people I have worked with have been facing, it says nothing of the creativity, resourcefulness and uniqueness that I have had the immense privilege to work alongside.

I continue my own art practice alongside a playful exploration of the world.
